Oyo State, Nigeria – September 29, 2023

In a significant collaborative effort to combat the prevalence of sickle cell disease and raise awareness among Oyo State Corp Members, Global Masters Institute (GMI) partnered with the Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) to deliver an impactful educational program.
The results were staggering, with awareness levels skyrocketing from below 40% before the training to over 85% after the lecture. GMI, led by its visionary Founder and President, Akindele Opeyemi, has distinguished itself as the sole authorised learning partner of the Skill Development Council of Canada in providing training and certification in such a vital area as point of care testing for healthcare professionals.

Their mission is to educate and certify healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, community health workers and other health practitioners, in the provision of accurate, rapid laboratory tests anywhere, anytime. This will reduce loss of lives as tests can now be carried out even in the patient’s home.
This partnership with SCHAF marks another milestone in their commitment to improving healthcare and combating diseases. The educational program, held in Oyo State, drew the participation of about 500 Corp Members eager to learn about sickle cell disease and its implications.
Before the training, a disconcerting lack of awareness about the disease was evident, with less than 40% of attendees having adequate knowledge. However, through the comprehensive and insightful lectures provided by GMI and SCHAF, this number surged to over 85% by the end of the program.
Furthermore, the blood genotype of participants were digitised, a move that was the first of it kind enabling blood genotype of any individual to be verified from anywhere at the click of a button. The diagnostic kits used at the event is a product of a cutting-edge technology that is more accurate than the current method mostly used in hospitals and laboratories.
The success of this collaborative effort has been a testament to the power of education in combating life-threatening diseases like sickle cell anaemia. It highlights the crucial role played by organisations like GMI and SCHAF in raising awareness and equipping individuals with the knowledge needed to make informed healthcare decision.
The training provided is projected to impact 1,500 communities and about 3 million individuals over the next 1 year as the corp members take the accurate information about blood genotype to communities across Nigeria as ambassadors.
