At an Ibadan hospital, an unfortunate accident victim with a fractured hip and bleeding arms waited for care as hospital staff prioritised their morning devotion. The hospital, owned and operated by qualified medical professionals, neglected the urgent needs of the patient while engaging in religious activities.
The incident has stirred dissatisfaction among patients and caregivers regarding the quality of services provided by hospitals. Despite healthcare professionals attributing poor health outcomes to “quacks,” instances like these raise concerns about the standards of care in established medical institutions.
This incident reflects broader systemic issues highlighted by Wole Oladapo, an esteemed faculty member of the Global Masters Institute, addressed the detrimental impact of power imbalances between healthcare professionals and patients on health outcomes during a recent lecture.
The prevailing lack of change in healthcare service delivery despite online and media campaigns urging people to seek professional healthcare indicates a disheartening disregard for patient well-being. Patients experiencing subpar services might interpret this as a message devaluing their lives.
Ironically, while credentialed medical professionals often blame untrained individuals for poor health outcomes, these “quacks” exhibit empathy and effective communication, earning trust despite lacking formal qualifications.
This lamentable situation underscores the urgent need for healthcare professionals to upgrade their skills. Global Masters Institute (GMI), in collaboration with the Skill Development Council Canada, offers a Point of Care Testing Certification Programme. The program aims to equip medical practitioners, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, and other healthcare workers with enhanced skills to improve the country’s healthcare system.
The enrollment at GMI for the Point of Care Testing Certification Programme is currently open, providing comprehensive training and certification. For those seeking to elevate their medical skills, inquiries can be directed to globalmastersinstitute@gmail.com or via WhatsApp at +234902 681 2248.
