The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF) recently concluded its impactful World Diabetes Day program, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from November 13th to 17th, 2023. This healthcare-focused initiative aimed to address the urgent medical needs of underprivileged Nigerians, particularly focusing on diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Over the course of five days, the OOF provided free medical check-ups and screenings, benefitting more than 5000 impoverished individuals. The screenings covered diabetes, hypertension, and other NCDs, offering crucial early detection and intervention for these prevalent health concerns.
Moreover, the foundation organized complimentary eye checks and distributed approximately 3000 eyeglasses to those in need. Recognizing the severity of eye-related issues, the OOF scheduled free eye surgeries for 200 beneficiaries on November 29th, 2023, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, aiming to bring a positive change to those requiring surgical interventions.
The program’s impact was significant, with over 1000 individuals benefiting daily. Key partners such as Azikel Group of Company, Aig Imokhuede Foundation, and WITS Healthcare from the United States were instrumental in ensuring the success of this initiative.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the foundation’s founder, reiterated the importance of healthcare accessibility, stating, “Health is wealth, and no one should be left behind in the pursuit of a healthier and more prosperous nation.” The OOF remains committed to its mission of enhancing healthcare accessibility for all Nigerians, building upon this successful initiative in future endeavors.
